Prue Leith to Leave The Great British Bake Off After Nine Years
Dame Prue Leith has announced that she will step down as a judge on The Great British Bake Off, bringing an end to her nearly decade-long journey on the popular baking show. The 86-year-old television personality shared the news in a heartfelt statement on Instagram, saying that “now feels like the right time to step back.”
Prue Leith joined Bake Off in 2017, replacing Dame Mary Berry after the show moved from the BBC to Channel 4. Since then, she has become a familiar and much-loved presence in the tent, judging alongside Paul Hollywood and working with presenters including Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.

In her statement, Dame Prue explained that her decision was motivated by a desire to enjoy life beyond the show. She mentioned wanting to spend more time on personal interests, particularly enjoying her garden during the summer months.
She described Bake Off as a “fabulous part” of her life and said she would miss working with her fellow judges, presenters, and the production teams at Love Productions and Channel 4.
Channel 4 Yet to Announce Replacement
Channel 4 has not yet revealed who will replace Dame Prue on the main Bake Off series. Her departure follows her earlier decision to step down from the Celebrity Bake Off, where she was replaced in 2024 by Lady Caroline Waldegrave.

Channel 4’s chief content officer Ian Katz praised Dame Prue for her warmth, empathy, and authority, describing her as a “joyous presence in the tent.” He added that she leaves behind a lasting legacy on the show and its bakers.
